Campbell & Associates Attorneys Volunteer for United Way’s Hands On Charlotte Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– At the culmination of National Volunteer Week on Saturday, April 13th, volunteers from Campbell & Associates, alongside hundreds of community members, will rally the city to take action on service projects for Charlotte schools, non-profits and neighborhoods to celebrate United Way’s Hands On Charlotte Day.

The celebration will mark the United Way of Central Carolinas’ continuing initiative to partner with a network of neighborhoods in the early stages of revitalization. The organization supports volunteer opportunities for resident-driven projects like the beautification efforts planned for Saturday’s Lakewood Neighborhood Spruce Up and Celebration event.

“United Way is focused on improving economic mobility in Charlotte, and the project at Lakewood is just one of many paths to achieving that goal,” said Chris Bartley, Social Security Disability and Personal Injury Attorney, Campbell & Associates. “Helping underserved areas of Charlotte improve their sense of community and overall belonging is an important step to ensure that all Charlotteans have the opportunity to achieve the life they want for themselves.”

Following a 2013 study by Harvard University/UC Berkeley that ranked Charlotte-Mecklenburg 50th out of 50 in upward mobility among the largest U.S. cities, the United Way of Central Carolinas launched the United Neighborhoods initiative to begin a process of neighborhood revitalization. The program expanded its reach in 2018 with additional “Block Building Grants” and continuing community partnerships across the city.

At the Hands On Charlotte event site at Lakewood Park, just three miles northwest of downtown Charlotte, community members and Campbell & Associates volunteers will build new benches, paint a retaining wall, and clean out garden beds to make the community attractive and welcoming to all who choose to live, work, and play there. With the help of the Lakewood Neighborhood Alliance and other grassroots organizations working to mobilize residents, the United Way promotes a community-led model for addressing needs specific to each neighborhood.

“We are delighted to be a community partner for the United Way of Central Carolinas,” said Clair Campbell, Principal and Managing Attorney, Campbell & Associates. “Our firm has offices in neighborhoods across our region. But we are always honored to participate in the beautification and improvement of those in other areas where many of our clients live as well as our fellow Carolinians.”

The day of service will include additional projects across Charlotte, including painting at the new Brookhill Community Center, furniture assembly for Beds for Kids, facility maintenance at Shining Hope Farms, and beautification projects at Arbor Glen Apartments and the Marie G. Davis K-8 School.
