Knowing your Lawyer Cares | Contingency Fees
Contingency Fees. What Are They?
Here at Campbell & Associates we work on a contingency fee basis for all of our claims. It’s our way of helping you out without needing anything up front from you the injured person.
According to the American Bar Association a contingency fee is an agreement between an attorney and a client in which the client only pays an attorney fee if the attorney handles their claim successfully. The amount of the fee is typically an agreed upon percentage of the final settlement amount. This type of fee is used primarily in personal injury and workers compensation claims.
A contingency fee agreement is mutually beneficial to the client and the attorney. The client can obtain legal representation with no up front cost to them. That is often a relief because the client has just experienced a traumatic event, such as a car accident or an injury on the job. Also, the client never has to pay any fees for their service directly to the attorney. All of the attorney fees are taken out of the settlement. The agreement is good for attorneys because it allows them to represent clients that would otherwise not be able to afford their services. It also incentivizes the attorney to negotiate the highest possible settlement on behalf of the client.
